Tony at the Hilton Hotel - and his next major show!

The Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel, part of the famous Hilton group, contacted Tony and they now stock a selection of his cards and prints for purchase by their guests. Each new guest can now see Tony's images in a showcase as they enter the Hotel's reception and view his work in the welcome pack which is in every one of the Hotel's 340 rooms. The Hilton's General Manager is also using Tony's cards for personal correspondence. Tony's next major exhibition will be in the Hilton's 'Bar 106' from November 2010.

A Second London Salon Medal for Tony
Tony was recently (May 2010) awarded his second London Salon of Photography Medal for his picture of a cyclist in the snow looking at the West Pier in Brighton. This follows his being awarded his first medal at last year's Salon for a picture of a bench in the snow in Hove (pictured on the left). Just eight medals were awarded worldwide this year. To be awarded two medals in one lifetime is an highly prestigious - and rare - achievement!

Almost 1600 entries to win one of Tony's Canvases!

In a recent competition to help publicise events during the Brighton Festival in May Visitbrighton.com, the City's main tourism website, hosted a competition to win one of Tony's canvases - 'The West Pier, Brighton - in Pink', worth £375. The competition attracted a record 1,599 entries and the lucky winner was Mari Booker from Portslade, Sussex who was presented with her canvas by Tony in his studio. You can see a photo of the presentation (which also features a now rare appearance from Sam the Dog!) to the left of these words.

Our Open House Season is now Over
For the sixth successive year the Happy Artists were open as part of the Brighton Festival of Artists Open Houses where literally thousands of visitors came to visit. Due to the increased popularity of Tony's work we have no plans to open again in the future and, instead, welcome visitors at any time of the year by appointment. On your visit you will be able to purchase any of Tony's work and/or commission new unique work just for you. See the contact page for details. Just give Tony a little notice if you plan to visit. You can still find out more about our open houses by following the Happy House link above.

Sanctuary Exhibition - Now Over!
Following a great response, Tony's exhibition at the Sanctuary Café, Hove ran for nine months but is now over whilst the cafe is closed to be completely refurbished. It should re-open later in the year, hopefully with a new exhibition from Tony!

Oh lucky man

Congratulations to Paul Bennett from Brighton who has won one of Tony's iconic Beach Huts In The Snow canvases in a competion run by visitbrighton.com. The competition, which was a promotion for last year's Christmas Artists Open House festival, received more than a thousand entries - one of the largest number of competition entries the website has seen, by all accounts. You can read more and see a photo of the canvas being presented by Tony to the lucky winner in the latest Artists Open House newsletter by clicking here.

Some of Tony's framed photographs of Brighton and Hove commissioned for the recently restored Grade II listed Brighton Bandstand are now on permanent display – find them in the Bandstand Cafe Bistro, which is under the bandstand! See www.brightonbandstand.com to find out more about this historic building.

Tony's famous beach huts prints were the centrepiece of the Christmas 2009 festive window display at Leaders – the estate agents – in Church Road, Hove. Read all about it in The Argus.

A selection of Tony's work and a profile of the man himself is now available to view on the Saatchi Gallery website.

For he's a jolly good fellow
May 2009: Tony has been awarded the highest distinction by the Royal Photographic Society, making him Tony Bowall FRPS (Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society). The work that won him the award is his panel of 20 Greek images, which you can also view on the Brighton and Hove Camera Club website.

As if that wasn't enough, Tony has also just been awarded a 2009 London Salon of Photography medal. These awards are extremely rare – in fact only 10 are awarded worldwide each year. The image that won him the medal is Tony's Bench In The Snow In Hove.

Show stoppers
In addition to his latest London Salon of Photography success, Tony has had photographs selected for the 2010 Tribute to Colour Exhibition in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands, the 2010 Bristol Salon of Photography, the 2010 Southampton International Salon of Photography, the Surrey Photographic Association Biennial Exhibition and others. In 2009 he had two prints accepted for the 96th Southampton International Exhibition of Photography (2009), as well as having another print chosen for the Royal Photographic Society's 2009 International Members' Exhibition. It's not the first time Tony has experienced the sweet taste of exhibition success – for the past four years he has had images selected for the prestigious London Salon of Photography as well as work chosen for previous Royal Photographic Society shows.

Snowy beach huts find national fame
Tony's Beach Huts In The Snow photographs from April 2008 have attracted much press coverage lately, and have been seen and mentioned in the travel section of The Observer newspaper in the UK, as well as in the Guide section of The Guardian. You can see the image in a local online review too. Plus there have been several sightings in Brighton and Hove local magazine Latest 7/Latest Homes – and more still to come, no doubt.
