More of Tony's Work in the Hove Montefiore Hospital

Tony now has eight of his large canvases on display and there are plans for more to be in place soon. Tony is delighted that two of his Greek images have been selected to join the existing canvases of Brighton and Hove. The other artist of note who has his work in the hospital is Brian Eno, Ambient Music pioneer and former member of Roxy Music. 

 

New Festive Greetings Cards!

Just in time for Christmas, Tony has produced 10 brand new snowy cards featuring landmarks of Brighton and Hove. They can all be seen on the Greetings Cards Page. There are a large number of new Brighton and Hove images published now and in the pipeline. These include two from his Psychedelic Brighton and Hove Series which has been attracting much interest! The first cards have been produced in a new series of Tranquil/Spiritual/Buddhist images as well as a series featuring seagulls and a sleeping dog! Keep watching for more updates.

 

Tony is in the Brighton and Hove Calendar Again

One of Tony's images from his ever popular series featuring Beach Huts in the Snow in Hove can be seen on the newly published Brighton and Hove Calendar 2015. Tony's image can be seen on the February page. The calendars can be purchased from the stall in Churchill Square and in Kensington Gardens in Brighton.

 

Tony's Open House for 2014
This year Tony was exhibiting with local painter and photographer, Gary Jones, at their newly named venue 'G&T'. The Brighton Festival and Tony's Open House is now closed. 

Tony in the November Issue of Absolute Magazine
Tony was selected to appear in the Artists' Directory - Just eight artists were featured- in the November edition of Absolute Magazine.
 

Final Bargains in Tony's Sale of Canvases & Framed Prints
Tony has taken down two major exhibitions and is offering the ex-display canvases and a few large framed prints (prints made by Spectrum of Hove) to clients at heavily reduced prices. There is only one of each in the size specified and once they are sold there will be no more at this price. Prices are approximately one third of usual retail prices for the larger canvases and some smaller canvases are also included which are not ex display but still are being offered at a substantial discount. Tony's Work in Charity Silent Auction
One of Tony's Photographs was included in a charity auction held in June 2013 in Brighton Museum and Art Gallery in aid of the Martletts Hospice in Sussex. Tony's work was displayed alongside works from best selling Brighton author Peter James, actor David Walliams, musician Nick Cave and many other well known Sussex artists and celebrities.

Tony's Seventh Year in a Row at the London Salon!
Yet again one of Tony's photographs ('Brighton Lavatorial Theft Prevention' - a minimalist take of some toilet rolls in a Brighton Cafe!) has been selected for exhibition at the prestigious (102nd) London Salon of Photography following on from his being awarded two rare and prestigious medals from the Salon in previous years. More work with Musicians
For the past year and more Tony has been working with musicians from Brighton and further afield, especially with the Real Music Club, and has been photographing them performing. Most recently he photographed Arthur Brown, the God of Hellfire himself. One of his videos was recently used by Steffe Sharpstrings, one of the founder members of Here & Now and Tony's photographs feature strongly on Steffe's Facebook pages. Other recent photographs have featured 'That Legendary Wooden Lion', 'Funge', Xanthus, Edgar Broughton, and Nik Turner (who used to play with Hawkwind). Every Beach Hut in Hove - New Edition Coming Soon!
At the time a number of people thought Tony was mad (and they may have been right!) taking so much time photographing every beach hut in Hove (of which there are over 400) and then spending countless days, day and night, producing his first edition of the Beach Huts Portraits Project on one print and one or many canvases. The Project has been extremely popular and, following the updated Second Edition in 2010 - on New Year's Day 2013 - one of the first full sunny days for quite a while - Tony began all over again and, starting at Hove Lagoon, began photographing every hut once more. All of the photographs have nowbeen taken and the new, Third, Edition of this image will be ready in the near future. Watch this page for updates.
 

Tony's Photo on the Brighton Hilton Hotel's Xmas Card Again
For the third year running Tony has been asked to produce the official Xmas card for the Manager of the Brighton Hilton Metropole Hotel. The card will be given to all guests by the Manager over the festive seaon and is based on one of Tony's photographs of a snow scene of the Hotel.

New Exhibition: Somerhill Dental Surgery
Tony's latest permanent exhibition is now running on three floors of the newly opened Somerhill Dental Surgery in Hove, The show features twelve of Tony's canvases including seven brand new ones which have never been seen before and they look fantastic against the white walls in the surgery. Three New Greetings Cards!
At the beginning of November Tony printed three new cards which can be ordered from this website. They are Beach Huts in the Snow #4 which is a detail of one of the very popular Beach Huts in the Snow series. There is also a sunny version of the popular Angel/Peace Statue on the Brighton and Hove Borders and a reprint of the very popular Beach Huts with Tropical Umbrella card featuring local 'celebrity' John the Van. New Exhibition: Brighton Bandstand 
Tony has replaced lots of work in his long running show inside the Brighton Bandstand Cafe Bistro which is, surprise, surprise, underneath the Grade II listed Brighton Bandstand.


New Promotional Material for Hove Civic Society
One of Tony's photographs of the Regency Brunswick Square fills the cover of Hove Civic Society's promotional flyer. A selection from Tony's 'Every Beach Hut in Hove' runs along the entire bottom of the inside of the flyer. Every page of their website has a tiny set of Tony's Beach huts at the top too! (website)


Tony's Sixth Consecutive Year at the London Salon!
Once more one of Tony's photographs ('Fire Alarm, Greece') has been selected for exhibition at the prestigious (101st) London Salon of Photography following on from his being awarded two rare and prestigious medals from the Salon in previous years. Two Open Houses for the Brighton Festival
Tony's work was on prominent display at two Artists Open Houses venues on the Hove Arts Trail. The main venue (the one with most of Tony's work on display) was The Vehicle Testing Station, Cambridge Grove, Hove which is now closed. The second venue is The Bell in Belfast Street Hove and will be open indefinitely during normal pub hours!. At each venue four well known and established artists were exhibiting. Along with Tony there was Sara Abbott, Gary Jones and Funky Red Dog. Click on the venues' names, above, for more details.

Brunswick Surgery, Hove
This exhibition is now running at Brunswick Surgery in Western Road - in the main window visible from the street, which is showing some prints of his most popular work as well as showcasing new photographs showing some of the Regency architecture of Hove. This is part of the launch of his new series of Greetings Cards of the Brunswick area of Hove in conjunction with City Books, Hove, and the collection will grow as the year progresses.

Charter Medical Centre, Hove
A major exhibition of larger works as photographs and canvases is now showing in the main waiting rooms (Ground and First Floors) of Charter Medical Centre and Somerhill Dental Surgery, Davigdor Road, Hove.

Tony's Photos in Silent Charity Auction
One of Tony's popular Beach Huts in the Snow, Hove, signed limited edition photographs was happily given to the 'Amaze' Charity (working with parents of children with special needs) for a fundraising event held in Hove. Tony also prepared some of the children's artwork for exhibition and sale at the event.

Tony's Photograph Presented to Famous Composer John Rutter
One of Tony's Framed recent Photographs of Brighton Pavilion at night was presented to Famous Choral Composer John Rutter at an event organised by Brighton and Hove Rotary Club Breakfast in February. 400 people were in attendance and the event was a fundraiser for Dementia UK and Admiral Nurses for East Sussex. Many thousands of pounds were raised for these good causes. John is very well known for many of his choral works and his piece 'This is the Day' was commissioned for, and first performed at, the Royal Wedding of  HRH Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey in 2011. Another New Retailer Selling Tony's Greetings Cards
'City Books' in Hove now stock a wide range of Tony's Greetings Cards. City Books have commissioned Tony to produce a new range of Cards featuring the Brunswick area of Hove. The careds are being promoted with a display of some of Tony's new prints in the window of the Brunswick Surgery in Western Road. Tony's Work at the Top Drawer Show, Earl's Court. London
Tony has been supplied three of his large framed images of Brighton as a backdrop to Fiona Hutchinson's Jewellery display at the show in January 2012.

Tony's Photograph on Brighton and Hove Council's Xmas Card
The Office of the Chief Executive of Brighton and Hove City Council has asked Tony if they can use one of his photographs (Peace Statue/Angel in the Snow) for their Xmas card for this year. This follows on from his producing the Brighton Hilton Metropole Hotel's Card this year.


Tony's Work on Three Floors at the Chamber of Commerce
The Director of Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce asked Tony to display his large prints and canvases in the main office and two other floors at the Chamber's Head Office. Visitors can view them now and more work will adorn the rest of the building soon! Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce, 115a Church Road, Hove.


Tony produces his second Xmas card for the Hilton Hotel
For the second year running The Brighton Hilton Metropole Hotel has asked Tony to produce the Corporate Christmas card for 2011 from a photograph of the Hotel (with added snow!). The card is being used by the Hilton's General Manager who also uses Tony's Greetings Cards for all of his personal correspondence to 'VIP' clients.


Brighton and Hove Calendar 2012
One of Tony's images - 'Walkies in the Snow, Hove' - which you can see in the Galleries and is available as a Greetings card -can be seen on the December pages of the newly published 'Brighton and Hove Calendar 2012' published by Nigel Swallow at North Laine Photography. Another of Tony images can be seen on the December page for this year (2011!)


Tony's Fifth Year at the London Salon of Photogaphy
Once more one of Tony's photographs ('Walkies in the Snow, Hove') has been selected for exhibition at the (100th) London Salon of Photography following on from his being awarded two rare and prestigious medals from the Salon in previous years.


Tony's Mentor Awarded an MBE by the Queen
Tony's photographic mentor and close friend, Bill Wisden MBE HonFRPS from Southwick, near Brighton, was awarded an MBE by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 12th October for his 'Services to Photography'. Bill has been taking photographs since the 1950s and has 15 of his iMBE by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 12th October for his 'Services to Photography'. Bill has been taking photographs since the 1950s and has 15 of his images in the archives of the Museum of Photography in Bradford among his many other achievements. Bill's excellent photographic eye has helped Tony to perfect his photography for the past six years and he continues to help many others in their photographic endeavours. Many Congratulations to Bill on this Honour.
 

Tony in the Latest (Autumn 2011) issue of 'Arty' Magazine 
Sixteen examples of Tony's work can be seen on the entire inside front cover of the Autumn issue of 'Arty' Magazine which is out now and available from galleries, hotels and other 'arty' places in Brighton and London.


Tony Latest Shows
Tony's latest permanent Exhibition is now running inside the newly refurbished 'The Nevill' Pizzeria and Pub in Nevill Road, Hove. At present there are three massive canvases on display with more to come soon! His other permanent exhibition at Pizza Express, Hove continues with some new large works. Almost the entire restaurant and lower ground floor is filled with Tony's images which are causing a positive stir among the customers and staff! Both shows feature images of Brighton & Hove which will be regularly updated and include the largest canvases that Tony has ever produced to date.

Tony in 'Arty' Magazine Feature
Tony is featured in the opening double page spread - 'The Big Picture' in the Brighton Festival Edition of Arty Magazine which is now published and available from galleries, hotels and other 'arty' places in Brighton and London. It shows his entire Beach Hut Portraits Project.

Tony in 'Advanced Photographer' Magazine - April 2011
In a feature on Medal winners from the London Salon of Photography, Tony's Image of the Cyclist and West Pier - (which won Tony his second medal from the Salon in 2010) is published in the first edition of a new monthly photography magazine, 'Advanced Photographer', available from all good newsagents now. The image can also be seen in the'Other Notable Awards' section of the 'Award Winners' Gallery (click on underlined text to view) and a small version of the image can also be seen on the bottom left of the 'Press' page of this website.

Brighton and Hove Calendar 2010/2011

Tony at the Hilton Hotel
The Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel, part of the famous Hilton group, contacted Tony and they plan to have his work on the walls of many of their 60 new rooms which are being refurbished and opened to the public later in . Tony was commissioned to photograph and design their 2010 Corporate Christmas card (with added snow!). A Second London Salon Medal for Tony
In May 2010 Tony was awarded his second London Salon of Photography Medal for his picture of a cyclist in the snow looking at the West Pier in Brighton. This follows his being awarded his first medal at last year's Salon for a picture of a bench in the snow in Hove (pictured on the left). Just eight medals were awarded worldwide this year. To be awarded two medals in one lifetime is an highly prestigious - and rare - achievement! Yet another of his photographs was selected for the 2011 100th Anniversary London Salon Exhibition.

Almost 1600 entries to win one of Tony's Canvases!
In a competition to help publicise events during the Brighton Festival in May 2010 Visitbrighton.com, the City's main tourism website, hosted a competition to win one of Tony's canvases - 'The West Pier, Brighton - in Pink', worth £375. The competition attracted a record 1,599 entries and the lucky winner was Mari Booker from Portslade, Sussex who was presented with her canvas by Tony in his studio. 

Our Open House Season is now Over
For the sixth successive year the Happy Artists were open as part of the Brighton Festival of Artists Open Houses where literally thousands of visitors came to visit. Our next Festive Open House will be running over the lsst weekend in November and the First two in December 2011.


Sanctuary Exhibition - Now Over!
Following a great response, Tony's exhibition at the Sanctuary Café, Hove ran for nine months but is now over as the cafe is closed.


Greetings Cards

Oh lucky man

Congratulations to Paul Bennett from Brighton who has won one of Tony's iconic Beach Huts In The Snow canvases in a competion run byvisitbrighton.com. The competition, which was a promotion for last year's Christmas Artists Open House festival, received more than a thousand entries - one of the largest number of competition entries the website has seen, by all accounts.


Bandstand bonanza 
Some of Tony's framed photographs of Brighton and Hove commissioned for the recently restored Grade II listed Brighton Bandstand are now on permanent display – find them in the Bandstand Cafe Bistro, which is under the bandstand! Festive agents 
Tony's famous beach huts prints were the centrepiece of the Christmas 2009 festive window display at Leaders – the estate agents – in Church Road, Hove.

For he's a jolly good fellow 
May 2009: Tony has been awarded the highest distinction by the Royal Photographic Society, making him Tony Bowall FRPS (Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society). 

As if that wasn't enough, Tony has also just been awarded a 2009 London Salon of Photography medal. These awards are extremely rare – in fact only 10 are awarded worldwide each year. The image that won him the medal is Tony's Bench In The Snow In Hove.

Show stoppers 
In addition to his latest London Salon of Photography success, Tony has had photographs selected for the 2010 Tribute to Colour Exhibition in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands, the 2010 Bristol Salon of Photography, the 2010 Southampton International Salon of Photography, the Surrey Photographic Association Biennial Exhibition and others. In 2009 he had two prints accepted for the 96th Southampton International Exhibition of Photography (2009), as well as having another print chosen for the Royal Photographic Society's 2009 International Members' Exhibition. It's not the first time Tony has experienced the sweet taste of exhibition success – for the past four years he has had images selected for the prestigious London Salon of Photography as well as work chosen for previous Royal Photographic Society shows.

Snowy beach huts find national fame
Tony's Beach Huts In The Snow photographs from April 2008 have attracted much press coverage lately, and have been seen and mentioned in the travel section of The Observer newspaper in the UK, as well as in the Guide section of The Guardian. You can see the image in alocal online review too. Plus there have been several sightings in Brighton and Hove local magazine Latest 7/Latest Homes – and more still to come, no doubt.

April 2007: Tony has achieved the Associateship distinction from the Royal Photographic Society, and can now use the letters ARPS after his name to show that achievement.

2005: Top 10 winner 
Great news. Tony has won seventh place in the prestigious, worldwide Amateur Photographer Of The Year 2005 competition run by Amateur Photographer magazine.
